About The Position
The Cytotechnologist performs microscopic evaluation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, including fine needle aspirations, according to established procedures and protocols. The Cytotechnologist accurately screens routine GYN and Non GYN slides for the presence of abnormal cells. The Cytotechnologist works effectively as a team member within the department and with other departments to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration. This role involves preparing and examining non-gynecologic and gynecologic slides for cellular evidence of disease and rendering an interpretation of the findings in precise cytopathology terminology. The Cytotechnologist will recognize deviations from expected results and mark areas for cytopathologist review, assist with Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy and other procedures, and communicate requirements for specimen submission. Additionally, the role requires utilizing computer equipment to record and transmit laboratory data, participating in Quality Control and proficiency testing programs, signing out negative gynecological smears, and participating in the orientation and training of new employees and students. The Cytotechnologist will also participate in hospital and laboratory in-service and continuing education programs and mandated annual proficiency testing to ensure currency of job knowledge and technical competency. Performs other duties as assigned by lead, supervisor, or manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree Science Degree in Cytotechnology, graduate from a CAHEA-accredited school of Cytotechnology required.
- 2 years’ previous experience preferred; student training accepted.
- CP-BC - Clinical Pathologist-Board Certified - American Board of Pathology preferred.
Responsibilities
