About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking an academically-oriented Cytogenomics Laboratory Medical Director. The MUSC Cytogenomics Laboratory offers comprehensive oncological and constitutional testing, including karyotyping, FISH, chromosomal microarray analysis, and specialty liquid/solid tumor molecular testing. The department is also recognized for its NIH research funding, averaging approximately $5 million annually. This is a tenure-track faculty position in Charleston, SC.

Requirements

  • Academically oriented candidate with 2 or more years of post-fellowship experience (current fellows/recent graduates will be considered).
  • MD or DO degree.
  • American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certification (or eligibility) in Cytogenetics and/or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics OR equivalent relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
  • At least two years of practical experience in Cytogenetics / FISH / Microarray studies.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.
  • Proficient in advanced practical, diagnostic, and interpretive skills in constitutional and oncological cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and next generation sequencing.
  • Excellent communicator with a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to patient care.

  • Develop, validate, implement, and perform quality control for new molecular genomic and genetic tests.

  • Teach medical and graduate students.
  • Train pathology residents and fellows.
  • Participate in the ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship training program.
