About The Position
Medical City Dallas is hiring a PRN Cytogenetics Technologist. Under delegation from the Medical Director of the Laboratory, the technologist performs moderate- and high-complexity testing without direct supervision. Work is not directly reviewed before preliminary patient test results are reported; final results are issued after review by the Cytogenetics Director or Medical Director. The role performs chromosome analysis, FISH, and short- and long-term tissue culture and harvesting. It also contributes to laboratory quality initiatives, troubleshooting, procedure development, cost control, and improvement of laboratory operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior chromosome and/or FISH analysis experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform chromosome analysis and FISH.
- Perform short- and long-term tissue culture and harvesting.
- Participate in laboratory quality assurance and quality improvement projects.
- Troubleshoot equipment, methods, and testing processes to assure quality, as assessed by quality control material.
- Direct research and development of new procedures and changes to existing procedures.
- Help control operating costs, maintain quality goals, and investigate opportunities to improve laboratory operations.
