About The Position

Airgas is hiring for a Cylinder Operator I in Kapolei, HI! This role involves manually and/or with the aid of material handling equipment moving industrial gas cylinders to different areas of the plant and loading/unloading cylinders from delivery trucks. The position requires operating a forklift, hand-truck, pallet-jack, and chain hoist to move compressed industrial gas and liquid cylinders to and from delivery trucks, filling, and storage areas. Responsibilities also include cylinder maintenance such as valving, de-valving, shot blasting, cleaning, and painting, as well as identifying and sorting cylinders for efficient refilling and handling. The operator must comply with all company safety policies and procedures, attend safety meetings, complete load sheets accurately, and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly plant appearance. Reporting equipment defects and ensuring accidents or injuries are promptly reported are also key duties. The role operates in a drug-free workplace.

Requirements

Prior forklift operating experience is necessary, certification preferred.
Able to perform heavy physical work - routinely pushing pulling more than 125 lbs with prolonged standing.
Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.
Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
Must be punctual and comply with shift schedule.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in industrial operations is a plus.
Previous experience in plant operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Safely operate forklift, hand-truck, pallet-jack, chain hoist, etc. to load/unload compressed industrial gas, liquid cylinders to and from delivery trucks to filling and storage areas.
May load cylinders onto vehicles manually or with the aid of material handling equipment.
Transfer plant cylinders to different areas within the facility using a forklift.
Performs cylinder maintenance such as valving, de-valving, and shot blasting.
Perform cylinder cleaning, painting and maintenance as needed.
Identify and sort cylinders for efficient refilling and handling.
Notify foreman or manager if normal truck loading duties cannot be accomplished for any reason.
Replace pallet straps as necessary.
Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
Attend safety meetings.
Complete load sheets accurately and distribute to drivers at the end of shift.
Maintain a clean, safe and orderly plant appearance.
Report any equipment or facility defect(s) to foreman or manager.
Comply with all Airgas safety rules and company policies.
Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
Wear proper PPE in work area at all time.
Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
