About The Position

The Child, Youth & Family (CYF) Instructor implements and facilitates the delivery of quality recreational programs, services and experiences to children, teens and families enrolled in the YMCA of the National Capital Region youth registered programs and birthday parties. The CYF Instructor functions as part of a team tasked with supervising program participants and guiding them in physical, social and emotional development. This position is responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, post-secondary education and/or ECE certification an asset
  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and relationship-building skills required
  • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

Nice To Haves

  • French is an asset
  • Previous experience working in the field of children and youth programs and/or camp programs with children 6-16 years of age an asset
  • Knowledge of and experiencing delivering fitness, nutrition, recreational sports, arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, etc. programs an asset
  • High Five – Health Child Development or YMCA Healthy Child Development certifications an asset

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and facilitating the delivery of quality recreational programs, services and experiences to children, teens and families.
  • Using a team approach when planning and leading programs.
  • Supervising program participants and guiding them in physical, social and emotional development.
  • Being responsible for the general safety of the participants.
  • Ensuring excellent customer service is provided to all members and participants.
  • Addressing concerns or issues and escalating them to the CYF Coordinator as necessary.
  • Ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA are conveyed to members, staff and volunteers with every interaction.
