About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has multiple openings for undergraduate students to participate in the Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI), contributing to cybersecurity projects aligned with LLNL’s national security missions. The summer 2027 program offers selected students the opportunity to apply their skills to nationally important projects, including developing and implementing cybersecurity tools and capabilities to mitigate advanced threats and supporting the cybersecurity of civilian and defense critical infrastructure. Interns will work with scientists, engineers, and technical staff and may support research in areas such as network and protocol analysis, intrusion detection, reverse engineering, incident response, malware analysis, systems programming, threat and risk analysis, operational technology and industrial control systems cybersecurity, software tool development, and artificial intelligence or machine learning. The program also provides professional and technical development activities with laboratory subject matter experts, opportunities to network with interns and employees, and exposure to LLNL’s national security work. Interns attend seminars and training and present their work in a seminar or poster. The program runs during summer 2027, with start dates from May 17 through June 21 and flexible end dates through September 24. Full-time on-site presence is required. The position is for a continuing undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution; students graduating with a bachelor’s degree in spring 2027 or beginning graduate study in fall 2027 are directed to apply for the graduate intern position. No security clearance is required, but the work is subject to U.S. export-control requirements and must be performed by a U.S. person.
