About The Position

GDIT is seeking a Cybersecurity Manager to join their program supporting the biomedical research community for their customer with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health. This role involves leading cybersecurity operations, engineering, and compliance initiatives to ensure the security of critical research data and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive experience leading cybersecurity operations in large, complex or federal environments.
  • Strong expertise in vulnerability management, patch compliance, malware defense, and incident response.
  • Proven background with cybersecurity engineering tools and platforms (e.g., WAF, SIEM, EDR, threat intelligence systems).
  • Deep knowledge of FISMA Moderate requirements, RMF processes, ATO documentation, POA&Ms, and continuous monitoring.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with federal stakeholders and IT teams to ensure a secure operating environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting cybersecurity operations in federal, biomedical, or research‑driven environments.
  • Background with advanced threat intelligence, security automation, and modern SecOps tooling.
  • Familiarity with securing scientific computing environments or Special Purpose Equipment (SPE).
  • Experience leading remediation of penetration test findings and public‑facing application vulnerabilities.
  • Strong ability to interpret and apply federal security policy, governance mandates, and audit requirements.
  • Proven skill collaborating with ISSO/CISO leadership, cross‑functional IT teams, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cybersecurity operations for NHLBI, including vulnerability remediation, patch compliance, malware response, and endpoint detection/response.
  • Oversee cybersecurity engineering activities such as web application firewall management, public-facing application security, and threat intelligence integration.
  • Manage cybersecurity compliance programs, including FISMA Moderate requirements, ATO packages, SSPs, BIAs, POA&Ms, and continuous monitoring.
  • Direct incident response, risk analysis, and remediation for security findings, penetration test results, and system vulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate security documentation, user security requests (e.g., MFA exemptions, software assessments), and audit preparation.
  • Implement and maintain security tools and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Splunk, SIEM, EDR).
  • Collaborate with federal stakeholders, IT teams, and scientific program staff to ensure secure operations and compliance.
  • Support cybersecurity communications, training, and user awareness initiatives across the NHLBI environment.
