About The Position

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Cybersecurity Engineer in Dallas, TX. The Cybersecurity Engineer implements and manages security technologies and controls that protect organizational assets in partnership with senior engineers, architects, and leaders. This role is responsible for hands-on execution and troubleshooting of security systems, collaborating with architecture, operations, and compliance teams to ensure security controls are both effective and aligned with enterprise risk. This role is critical in ensuring the confidentiality and security of the Company’s data, applications, cloud, and network infrastructure. They act as technical contributors with expertise in areas like system hardening, threat detection, vulnerability management, and compliance enforcement. This role provides a foundation for branching into specialization tracks such as Cloud Security Engineer, Application Security Engineer, or Network Security Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain enterprise security tools (e.g., SIEM, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, cloud security tooling) according to established configurations and operational runbooks
  • Monitor security alerts, analyze logs, and investigate anomalies to detect and respond to threats; contribute to response playbooks and collaborate with SOC and IR teams for incident triage and root cause analysis
  • Perform vulnerability assessments across systems, networks, and applications; Support, track, and report on remediation progress and exceptions
  • Apply technical controls to meet regulatory, compliance, and internal policy requirements (e.g., NIST, PCI DSS, SOC 2, CIS, FedRAMP) supporting audits and assessments
  • Execute security control testing and participate in risk assessments in alignment with engineering practices with enterprise risk management goals and control frameworks
  • Apply secure configurations for systems, networks, cloud resources, and endpoints leveraging established benchmarks and baselines (i.e., CIS) to ensure consistent hardening
  • Maintain configuration management standards within CI/CD pipelines and secure configurations baselines (i.e., OWASP) under direction of senior engineers
  • Develop scripts, integrations, or automation to improve detection, response, and reporting; contribute to ideas for process improvements
  • Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, and endpoint platforms following defined standards
  • Support incident investigations with log analysis, technical troubleshooting, and forensic data collection; Participate in tabletop exercises, post-incident reviews, and lessons learns implementation
