About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in the Cybersecurity (CYMB) program within the Department of Computer Sciences at Metropolitan State University (MSU Denver). These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions that vary from semester to semester based on program needs. MSU Denver is a diverse university serving over 16,000 students, with a strong commitment to equity and inclusion, designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. The Department of Computer Sciences is dynamic and innovative, offering BS degrees in Computer Science and Data Science and Machine Learning, as well as interdisciplinary programs in Cybersecurity. The affiliate instructor will teach graduate-level courses, develop and update curriculum, and engage in collaborative teaching. Duties include delivering course content, preparing materials, grading, providing feedback, addressing student questions, and offering academic support. Adaptability to new instruction modes and sensitivity to a diverse student population are encouraged.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred.
  • Alternatively, a master's degree in the above fields combined with minimum three years of industry experience in cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated ability in education, technical skills, creative problem-solving, teamwork, and implementing cybersecurity solutions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with national cybersecurity educational frameworks
  • Candidates need to be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
  • Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate-level courses in cybersecurity
  • Develop and update curriculum to reflect cutting-edge industry practices
  • Engage in collaborative teaching and learning experiences
  • Deliver course content to students
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans
  • Grade student work
  • Provide students with robust feedback in a timely manner
  • Address student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies
  • Provide online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment
  • Provide instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies
  • Comply with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies
