About The Position

On behalf of HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), this is a 12-month, inside IR35 contract role supporting the Ministry of Justice. The role will help establish the new Proactive Cyber Security Team within the Security Operations Centre (SOC), addressing a shortage of specialist capability and capacity in this area. The postholder will provide the knowledge, skills, experience and leadership needed for this work. The position is hybrid, with 60% office-based working at the nearest Ministry of Justice office, and can only be performed within the UK. HMCTS administers criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales, and is seeking people committed to public service and delivering justice.

Requirements

• Active SC clearance.
• Extensive experience in cyber security posture management, security controls assurance, or attack surface management.
• Strong understanding of security baselines, control frameworks and secure configuration management across cloud and enterprise environments.
• Experience measuring, reporting and improving organisational security posture through data-driven approaches.
• Knowledge of Microsoft security technologies, including Azure, Defender and Entra ID.
• Ability to identify systemic security weaknesses and drive improvement initiatives across multiple technology teams.
• Experience producing meaningful management information and executive-level reporting.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence technical and business teams to improve security outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Reduce material cyber and technology risk across the Ministry of Justice’s critical systems using a risk-based and prioritised approach, including strengthening strategic and core platforms and critical services.
• Improve visibility, ownership and accountability for cyber and technology risk at system, portfolio and enterprise levels.
