About The Position

CNO Financial Group is hiring a Cyber Security Intern to work alongside experienced Cyber Security associates, assisting with professional Cyber Security day-to-day work. The Cyber Security Intern will spend time with various teams in Security, including Operations, Engineering, and Governance. This is a paid internship at competitive rates. The internship program will run May 17 through August 06, 2027. CNO Financial Group offers various activities to complement the learning provided by the department work, including Networking, Leader Talks, Career Counseling, Development Opportunities, Insurance Product and Industry Presentation Series, an in-person event at one of our corporate offices during one week of the internship program, Final Presentations, and a Volunteering Event. CNO supports a flexible work environment and encourages Associates to work where they are most productive. This position may work fully remote from any US-based location, provided they are able to work Central or Eastern Time hours. All work must be performed within the United States, and occasional travel to corporate offices may be required. Associates living within 60 miles of a corporate office (Carmel, IN; or Chicago, IL) have access to work from that location as needed.

Requirements

  • Progress towards a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline.
  • Status as a rising junior or rising senior, approx. graduation dates of December 2027-June 2029.
  • Availability to work 40 hrs/week for 10-12 weeks during the summer.
  • Candidate location in Central or Eastern US time zone is preferred OR willingness to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours.
  • Basic understanding of information technology concepts, including networking and operating systems.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze information and identify patterns or anomalies.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • All work must be performed within the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship, work experience, or academic projects related to cybersecurity or information technology.
  • Familiarity with security concepts such as phishing, malware, endpoint security, authentication, and network security.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Participation in cybersecurity clubs, competitions, labs, or Capture-the-Flag (CTF) activities.
  • Pursuit of entry-level cybersecurity certifications such as CompTIA Security+, ISC2 CC, or similar.
  • Balancing education and a part-time job during the school year.

  • Experience working in a collaborative enterprise IT environment.
