About The Position

This is a seasonal, full-time Natural Resource Specialist 1 – CWD Surveillance Biologist position located in Corvallis, Oregon. The position is expected to last from September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026, with potential for extension or shortening based on project needs. The role supports the Wildlife Health and Population Laboratories in the surveillance, prevention, and management of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), assisting veterinarians, population biologists, and agency district biologists.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework; OR Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program.
  • Must obtain an ATV Safety Card within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Driving is required for this position.
  • Must complete the U.S. Department Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US and participate in E-Verify.

Responsibilities

  • CWD database entry and data management/GIS mapping
  • Public response to phone inquiries
  • CWD sampling and collection of harvested and road-kill salvage cervid heads and carcasses
  • Online hunter CWD results reporting
  • Collection of samples of harvested animals from taxidermists and meat processors
  • Carcass disposal coordination
  • Hunting season check station operations
  • Removal of targeted surveillance animals
  • Public outreach
  • CWD field equipment (truck, trailer, ATV) maintenance
