About The Position

This is a work-study position with Iowa State University. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the federal work-study program through the ISU Student Employment Center. This position offers opportunities to Story County in implementing its natural resource program. Major emphasis is on native vegetation management, reconstruction, and restoration in prairie remnants and other natural areas. Assigned tasks will utilize the latest trends in natural resource and vegetation management. Opportunities exist to interact with private landowners and other conservation departments, as well as attend workshops and seminars. Position will be available between August 2026 and May 2027. Work hours will depend on the work-study program qualifications and shall not exceed 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Current ISU student
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current, valid driver's license
  • Provide own transportation to Hickory Grove Park and occasionally to work sites
  • Purchase and wear OSHA-approved safety-toed footwear
  • Be available to work M-F between the hours of 7:00 – 3:30 with occasional evening and weekend duties
  • Meet the eligibility requirements of the federal work-study program through the ISU Student Employment Center
  • Undergo a background check in reference to driving record
  • Undergo a pre-employment drug screen
  • Complete Section 1 of Form I-9 along with required proof of right to work and identity

Nice To Haves

  • Skills to understand and recognize Iowa's native flora and fauna
  • Ability to work 1-2 eight-hour days
