About The Position

The CVOR/Open-Heart Surgery unit is a specialized, high-acuity operating room environment focused on patients undergoing complex cardiovascular procedures, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic procedures, and other open-heart surgeries. We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room Registered Nurse — CVOR RN to join our surgical team. The CVOR RN will provide high-quality perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing open heart and cardiovascular surgical procedures, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic procedures, and other complex cardiac cases. The ideal candidate is a skilled OR nurse with strong experience in cardiac surgery, sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, patient safety, and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and the broader perioperative team.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in applicable state.
  • 2+ years operating room nursing experience.
  • Experience with cardiac procedures (e.g., CABG, valve, vascular/thoracic).
  • Current BLS required.
  • Current ACLS required or obtained within the designated timeframe.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical asepsis, and perioperative standards.
  • Able to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year CVOR/open heart experience strongly preferred.
  • CNOR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients before, during, and after cardiovascular surgery.
  • Function as a circulating and/or scrub nurse in the cardiovascular operating room.
  • Assist with open heart and related procedures (e.g., CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm, thoracic/vascular, minimally invasive cardiac).
  • Maintain a sterile field and manage surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, surgical technologists, and other staff.
  • Monitor patient status and respond to intraoperative changes or emergencies.
  • Accurately document procedures, counts, implants, specimens, and patient care.
  • Participate in time-outs, safety checks, and infection prevention protocols.
  • Prepare the OR with appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies for cardiac cases.
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in call rotation, weekends, holidays, and emergency cases as needed.
