This specific role is for a CV Extruder Operator on the 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) in the Mishawaka Extrusion department. The operator will be responsible for producing high-quality bulk ignition wire or related products using a variety of continuous vulcanization extruders under limited supervision.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a standing posture for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively and perform stooping, bending, reaching, and pulling.
  • Ability to manipulate reels of wire weighing up to 1200 lbs and gaylords of raw material up to 1500 lbs via pallet cart.
  • Ability to work with a factory PC with video display and touch screen controls.
  • Must be analytical, mechanically inclined, organized, and detailed oriented.
  • Ability to view and determine the quality of print on moving wire.
  • Ability to work with raw materials and chemicals present in the workplace environment.
  • Legible handwriting and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to measure with and accurately read various gauges.
  • Ability and willingness to work significant overtime hours when assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the position in conformance to applicable work instructions.
  • Perform set-ups efficiently as required by work orders or direction.
  • Operate extruder at sufficient speed to meet production standards.
  • Ensure extruder is running at a minimum of 75% of the monthly schedule.
  • Perform specific quality checks (e.g., OD, wall thickness) and record results.
  • Operate extruder to conform to quality requirements by making necessary adjustments based on visual inspection, gauges, and PC screen.
  • Complete labor, inventory, and quality reporting accurately and timely.
  • Maintain equipment by making minor repairs/adjustments as required.
  • Maintain a clean workstation.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Accurately report production and inventory moves.
  • Report all potential hazards and/or accidents immediately.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
