About The Position

Stellantis is seeking skilled trades employees to join their manufacturing plants, which produce Jeep, RAM, Dodge, and Chrysler vehicles. The Cutter Grinder role is crucial for maintaining the quality of these vehicles. Cutter Grinders are responsible for precision grinding to sharpen and form various cutting tools, including drills, milling cutters, reamers, and more. This role requires analyzing specifications, setting up and operating machine tools, and repairing cutting tools. The candidate will interpret blueprints, manuals, and sketches, and plan operations using knowledge of CAD/CAM technology for complex grinding tasks. They will also test and inspect tools and equipment to ensure they meet design specifications and function correctly. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra and physics
  • A combination of four (4) years of documented experience and/or training as a Cutter Grinder
  • Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Work any shift and work overtime, including daily, weekends and holidays as required
  • Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or sharpen tools to prescribed dimensions and finishes
  • Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Operate CNC preset equipment such as Royal, Zoller, etc.
  • Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Perform problem solving tasks in a highly automated and dynamic manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform various types of precision grinding utilizing machines and their related equipment and attachments to sharpen and form cutting tools, such as drills, milling cutters and inserted tooth cutters, reamers, broaches, hobs, tool bits, punches, including tools of tungsten carbide and special tool steels.
  • Utilize practical skill and knowledge as a Cutter Grinder to analyze specifications, set up and operate machine tools and repair cutting tools.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, manufacturers' manuals, sketches or similar documents.
  • Plan the sequence of operation and materials required according to knowledge of computer technology, such as computer aided design (CAD), or computer aided manufacturing (CAM), to perform complex cutter grinding operations.
  • Test and inspect the tools and cutter grinder equipment to ensure that they are true to the original design and function properly.
