About The Position

The Cut-Off Operator cuts pipe to the correct length and properly identifies changes in grade, heat, and thickness. The role supports mill operations, maintains cutting equipment and the sizing mill, records production information and machine settings, and follows PTC's Quality Management System. Employees share responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to customers.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic, compute rates, ratios, and percentages, interpret bar graphs, and apply basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to use common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram-based instructions and address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Computer literacy, including the ability to use programs such as Word and Excel and to learn and use HP programs such as email and the ERP system.
• Flexibility with shifts and hours.
• Ability to tolerate any climate and work outside in a variety of conditions.
• Ability to stand or walk regularly and use arms and hands to load and unload material for extended periods.
• Ability to safely lift and load 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Set and maintain the correct cut-off length.
• Measure pipe lengths as required.
• Inspect cut-off blades for wear and chips, and change them when needed.
• Assist the mill with mill roll changes.
• Help set up and maintain the sizing mill.
• Record production and delays.
• Separate pipe by heat, grade, and thickness.
• Assist in clearing jams at the conveyor and kickoff table.
• Change the cut-off setup when sizes change.
• Complete the maintenance list.
• Maintain a good cutting edge on pipe.
• Record settings on the cut-off machine.
• Use burning equipment as required.
• Perform other assigned tasks.
