About The Position

The Cut Off Operator assists the Weld Mill Operator with changeovers, setup, and splicing on the tube mill. The role operates the lower end of the mill (saw), monitors pipe dimensions and product quality, sets up stencil equipment, and performs mill maintenance as needed. The operator works as part of a team with the Mill Operator and maintains basic housekeeping in the work area. The position also requires completing assignments given by the Supervisor, including assignments not specifically listed in the job description. The work takes place primarily in a manufacturing plant with loud heavy machinery, grease, and dirt. Conditions may include adverse weather, extreme heat or cold, hazardous chemicals, odors, dirt, and dust. The role requires use of personal protective equipment and may involve prolonged standing or sitting, walking long distances, working in confined spaces, and pushing, pulling, or lifting heavy materials. The listed shift is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED, etc.).
One to three months of equivalent experience in a related field, or proof of training in an area related to the job assignment.
Reasonable knowledge of handheld measuring devices, micrometers, measuring tapes, go/no-go gauges, grinding, thickness gauges, and depth gauges.
Moderate to advanced PC skills in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
Ability to use personal protective equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel with hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.
Frequent ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell; occasional sitting.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

High frequency welding experience desired.

Responsibilities

Change over and set up mills.
Operate the lower end of the mill (saw) and continuously monitor pipe size, ovality, length, straightness, inside flash, and product quality.
Set up stencil equipment.
Perform maintenance on mills as required.
Communicate and work with the Mill Operator on a team basis.
Perform basic housekeeping in the general work area.
Complete assignments given by the Supervisor, including assignments not specifically listed in the job description.
