About The Position

Working under the supervision of a Licensed Customs House Broker, you ensure compliance with U.S. Customs laws, tariff classification requirements, valuation standards, and country of origin regulations while delivering a high level of customer service. You serve as a key liaison between internal teams and external partners, supporting efficient Free Trade Zone (FTZ) import operations and maintaining strong regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum - High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field (logistics, freight forwarding, brokerage, etc.)
  • High attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred - Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • A Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify import documentation, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, airway bills, certificates of origin, and other required records.
  • Prepare, transmit, and manage customs entries and entry summaries in accordance with CBP requirements under supervision of a licensed customs broker.
  • File Importer Security Filings (ISF) accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Prepare and file in-bond movements and Permits to Transfer (PTT), as applicable.
  • Accurately enter shipment data into SAP to enable warehouse receipt and inventory processing.
  • Ensure correct reporting of entered value, country of origin, part numbers, purchase order numbers, and Manufacturer Identification (MID) codes.
  • Converts foreign currency to dollars. Calculates duties or tariffs on items using Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • Support participation in customs security programs such as C-TPAT.
  • Maintain electronic records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Communicate shipment status updates and documentation discrepancies to planners and buyers.
  • Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, trucking companies, and external brokerage partners to facilitate timely clearance.
  • Calculates other required customs data, enters into computerized brokerage system, and transmits data to customs for import clearance. Receives responses from customs and responds to questions, problems, or requests for additional documentation.
  • Arranges for wire transfer of payment, including additional charges from truck lines, freight forwarders, terminals, etc.
  • Prepares U.S. Census Bureau, Customs and other governmental agency documentation as required. Provides problem resolution and information requests from government agencies and internal customers.
  • Secures release of manifest from shipping lines; communicates information to affect timely drayage. Ensures proper and timely document filing and payment of customs duties and payments to truck lines, freight forwarders, terminals, etc.
  • Maintains audit documentation and files, reference library of applicable CFRs, Harmonized Tariff Schedules and related data.
  • Communicates import order specifications, delivery plans and delivery status with appropriate internal customers.
  • Navigates numerous websites / software systems to retrieve and load master data.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned
