About The Position

As a Customer Support Chemist, you will leverage your expertise in coatings technology, polymer, and crosslinking chemistries. You will be recognized as a product-line expert, applying your extensive knowledge of formulation practices to achieve market segment profit objectives while fulfilling customer expectations and requirements. Success in this role requires using fundamental principles for problem-solving, identifying root causes with BPI tools, and demonstrating effective communication and listening skills. You will also act as a technical resource for internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with customers, suppliers, Marketing, plant, and quality personnel. The role involves researching and interpreting literature, staying informed about competitor technology, and intellectual property. Key attributes for this position include a focus on results, driving change, fostering teamwork and trust, and demonstrating a deep understanding of customer and market needs. This position is based onsite at our Cleveland, OH facility, focusing on the decorative automotive parts and accessories market segment for Tier accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Chemistry or related Engineering or Science field
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • 1+ years of experience in coatings, paints, or similar industries

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all PPG safety protocols and encourage a broad safety culture in a laboratory work environment.
  • Conduct development work such as the formulation, application, and testing for all layers in the decorative parts market segment.
  • Work with manager in setting smart project goals, milestones against bold timelines.
  • Work with the commercial and the field organization informally and formally for ongoing project work.
  • Support product and process troubleshooting and apply root cause analysis and BPI tools to lead resolution of manufacturing and field issues.
  • Travel to customer or other PPG sites may be necessary.
  • Maintain results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports, test drill presentations, and project updates.
  • Work with regional labs; and together with R&D and other departments on the development and improvement of all formulations.
  • Simulate customer line conditions to troubleshoot field issues and to increase the speed and success rate of product launches.
  • Help with FLC, Secure Launch process (formula filing, conversion planning, PDCA).
