About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently. The Customer Operations Division oversees business centers, the City Register’s Office, and Land Records, Adjudication, and Collections divisions. This division processes tax and violation payments, records property transfers, adjudicates violations, and manages enforcement activities. The Land Records Division specifically records and maintains official real estate documents, collects property taxes, and provides review and research services for property records. The Land Records Division is seeking a motivated and organized Customer Service Researcher for the Queens Land Records Office. This role reports to the Queens’ Assistant Deputy Register.

Requirements

  • Must be permanent in the Clerical Associate Civil Service title.
  • Employee Identification Number (EIN) must be included when applying.
  • Permanent Civil Service title must be indicated in the cover letter.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
  • One year of satisfactory clerical experience.
  • Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting customers in the public area with the preparation of the required cover pages for document submissions.
  • Receive, Intake, scan and return documents presented to the City Register offices for recording by mail or in person.
  • Review documents in the ACRIS verification queue to ensure submissions meet recording requirements.
  • Pulling microfilm/ microfiche and Land Records books upon request.
  • Refiling and keeping Land Records books in the library area in order.
  • Perform cashiering and process incoming mail.
  • Research property ownership.
  • Provide informal operational and administrative support to the Queens Assistant Deputy, including reporting functions as needed.
  • Provide operational coverage for the Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens City Register offices as required.
  • Assist with special projects and other assignments to support Division operations.
