About The Position

This Customer Service Representative (Patient Registration) role involves helping patients check into the Emergency Room at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin. It is a fast-paced, high-volume department where the representative will be the person patients rely on to answer questions during registration. The role requires building trust by collecting information accurately and quickly, and by listening with compassion to address patient fears, concerns, and questions. No previous healthcare experience or knowledge is required, making this a perfect starting point to launch a healthcare career, as all necessary training will be provided. The position is in a hospital/lab environment, specifically the emergency room, where exposure to illness and injuries is expected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Ready to work in a very fast-paced, high-stress environment
  • Basic computer multitasking and typing skills are required
  • Up to date on all vaccinations
  • Pass a drug test
  • Pass a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital or medical/clinic experience is preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Help patients check into the Emergency Room at the hospital.
  • Answer questions from patients during registration.
  • Collect patient information accurately and quickly.
  • Listen with compassion to address patient fears, concerns, and questions.
  • Work on computers and answer phones to intake information in a busy, high-volume Emergency Department.
  • Work across multiple screens, collecting details that must be input correctly between physician and nurse check-ins.
  • Type as quickly as patients can talk.
  • Work around clinicians interrupting the registration process for emergent clinical care.
  • Help people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety.
  • Ask follow-up questions and build rapport in real time.
  • Assist patients in completing their registration while on your feet.
  • Acquire knowledge through training regarding variations in health plans and coverage.
  • Work quickly and expect the unexpected.
