About The Position

CentroMed is seeking a Customer Service Representative (CSR) to serve as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring a positive experience. The CSR is responsible for patient registration, processing requests for healthcare and social services, and coordinating data entry to meet deadlines. This role also involves conducting patient financial reviews, billing, collections, and summarizing data for the agency's UDS report and Quality Improvement activities. CentroMed is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive healthcare services across San Antonio and New Braunfels, dedicated to serving all populations regardless of income.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • General experience working in a health care setting
  • Experience with medical data entry preferred
  • Strong clerical skills including keyboarding
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Computer knowledge and use of calculator
  • Mental ability to conduct interviews, reconcile encounter reports, and conduct audits with attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Establish and update patient accounts in the computer system.
  • Enter charges for self-pay, insurance, and eligibility programs, and reconcile charges daily.
  • Determine patient eligibility for special programs.
  • Assist patients and visitors, and answer telephones.
  • Understand insurance (Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP) and eligibility programs, and verify insurance status using TMHP and Availity.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to established protocols.
  • Maintain productivity rates, encounter entries, logs, referrals, and outreach paperwork.
  • Review and update household financial and demographic information annually.
  • Perform intake interviews for new patients, confirm homelessness, and update registration forms.
  • Assemble medical/dental record forms and initiate encounter forms.
  • Follow up on no-shows.
  • Maintain professional attire and punctuality.
  • Assist clinical teams in patient assessment and notify clinicians of emergencies.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, maintaining agency, OSHA, and JCAHO compliance.
  • Participate in the agency’s Quality Improvement Program.
  • Assist with outreach activities and other duties as assigned.
