About The Position

Renesas is seeking a Customer Product Assurance Engineer to serve as the primary quality and reliability interface between Renesas and key AI datacenter customers for its AI High Density Power (HDP) Modules product families. This customer-facing, cross-functional role combines customer quality management, product reliability engineering, and supplier quality. The role supports new product ramps, resolution of field quality issues, and product assurance throughout the product lifecycle. It reports to the Product Assurance Director and partners closely with the Quality & Reliability Design Engineer and Supplier Quality Engineer. The position works directly with AI hyperscaler and datacenter customers to coordinate qualification activities, address escalations, communicate product quality performance, and translate customer requirements into internal actions. It also supports reliability and supplier-quality collaboration, design-for-quality practices, and continuous improvement across product development and manufacturing. Renesas describes its Performance Computing Power business as a fast-growing, strategically important product line serving the AI infrastructure market. The company has a global team of over 21,000 employees in more than 30 countries. The role is not available for remote work. Compensation is USD 140,500–175,350 per year. Employment is listed as Regular (PERM).

  • 7–12+ years of experience in the semiconductor or power electronics industry, with direct customer-facing quality or applications engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships in a quality or technical role, lead qualification activities, handle escalations, and present technical data to customer engineering and procurement teams.
  • Hands-on experience qualifying power modules, power semiconductors, or PCB assemblies.
  • Proficiency with 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, or equivalent issue-containment and corrective-action methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Design for Reliability (DfR), qualification test methods such as HTOL, PCT, and TC, and reliability data interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of PCB assembly processes, including surface mount technology (SMT), component selection, and manufacturing quality controls.
  • Experience with FMEAs, Cpk/SPC, CAPA processes, and supplier or process audits.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate quality metrics—including defect rates, yield trends, and return data—to technical and executive audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting AI hyperscaler or cloud datacenter customer qualifications for power delivery products.
  • Familiarity with automotive or commercial quality standards, including AEC-Q100, AEC-Q200, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949, and their application to high-reliability electronics.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as SEM/EDX, cross-section, and thermal imaging.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary quality liaison to key AI datacenter and hyperscaler customers, building relationships with their QA and qualification teams.
  • Lead and coordinate customer qualification activities for new AI power module products, meeting customer-specific requirements, timelines, and acceptance criteria.
  • Communicate proactively with customers throughout product development and qualification, managing expectations and resolving issues.
  • Translate customer quality requirements and feedback into actionable input for internal design, reliability, and supplier quality teams.
  • Own end-to-end resolution of customer quality escalations, coordinating teams to identify, contain, and correct issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Manage field returns and customer complaints; analyze data for trends, systemic root causes, and corrective action opportunities.
  • Drive closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), verify solutions, and communicate resolutions to customers.
  • Report quality performance to internal stakeholders and customers, including defect trends, return analysis, and improvement roadmaps.
  • Align customer qualification test requirements with internal reliability and qualification test programs in partnership with the Quality & Reliability Design Engineer.
  • Use reliability data, qualification reports, and DfR outputs to provide customers with confidence in product performance and longevity.
  • Collaborate on field-failure investigations using reliability test data, failure analysis results, and design knowledge.
  • Support customer-facing quality documentation, including qualification summary reports, reliability data packages, and ATE data summaries.
  • Work with the Supplier Quality Engineer to trace customer-identified component and PCBA quality issues to the supply chain and address them at the source.
  • Coordinate with supplier quality on incoming material quality data, FMEA reviews, and corrective actions for supplier-related issues.
  • Ensure customer-facing quality commitments are supported by supplier quality controls and documentation.
  • Champion design-for-quality principles and incorporate customer quality requirements into design, process, and test decisions early in development.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defect rates, improve manufacturing yield, and enhance product consistency.
  • Support development and review of FMEAs, control plans, and process qualification documentation to identify and mitigate quality risks.
