This role is accountable for the Sudbury, Manitoulin, Algoma, and Nipissing areas. The Customer Operations Manager is responsible for the provision of a wide range of customer electrical services, including connections, upgrades, and emergency repairs. This includes managing and supervising staff, organizing, scheduling, and assigning duties to clerical, technical, trades, and Society staff, ensuring work quality, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. The role involves making recommendations for staff changes, maintaining discipline, and providing advice on staff issues. Developing teamwork, promoting sound environmental practices, and ensuring compliance with legislation are key. The manager will administer the operations of assigned Operations Centres, ensuring adequate security, fire, and safety measures are in place. They will also ensure personnel receive adequate training, manage fluctuating workloads to maintain operating efficiency, and participate in policy formulation. Directing the disposal of obsolete equipment, performing work standard studies, and authorizing expense reports are also part of the responsibilities. The role includes supervising technical activities, planning and directing maintenance for rural lines, equipment, street lighting, and rights-of-way. It also involves supervising the installation of electric services and metering devices, directing the installation and maintenance of safety devices, and investigating proposed line crossings. The manager may also operate shops and garages for equipment repair. Additionally, the role involves supervising the Operations Centre office, ensuring adherence to accounting and clerical processes for billing, collections, stores, and equipment. Preparing reports and correspondence is also required. The manager will participate in planning regional capital expenditures, monitor load growth, and participate in the preparation of construction and expenditure plans. They will manage assigned work processes, monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvements to meet Service Level Agreements or contracts. Contributing to and reviewing information for negotiating/bidding on distribution work, evaluating packages, and recommending changes to improve final offers are also key. Providing advice on capabilities, price, service levels, and deliverables for Service Level Agreements or Contracts, and assisting in customer issue resolution are crucial. The role involves dealing with consumer service requirements, providing advice on electrical problems, interpreting wiring codes, and drawing attention to hazards. Advising new customers on construction, rates, and procedures, handling customer complaints, and planning local interruptions for maintenance are also responsibilities. Assisting in the transfer of customer supplies and services, providing services to municipalities, and arranging public meetings to promote corporate policy are part of the role. The manager will participate in cross-functional teams to implement customer products and programs and liaise with technical specialists for data exchange and consultation. In consultation with the Senior Advisor, Customer Products and Delivery, they will develop and implement work plans to deliver policies and products addressing customer expectations and improving customer understanding of the deregulated Ontario electricity market. Providing advice and delivering communications products to external groups on regulatory codes, business policies, and strategies is also required. Miscellaneous duties include processing joint use agreements and undertaking special studies.
