Reimagine What’s Possible We are seeking a Maintenance and Service Technician to join our Customer Engineering Team, reporting directly to our Area Maintenance Manager. The ideal candidate resides in the Bel Air, MD or Washington DC area. This is a residence‑based role involving daily travel to customer sites within approximately a 250‑mile radius. You will install, repair, and maintain cryogenic liquid, industrial gas, and process gas supply systems, including pumping, high‑pressure compression, and gas generation equipment. Training is provided for skill development in cryogenics and industrial gases.

Requirements

  • Travel daily to our customer sites within approximately a 250‑mile radius.
  • Proficiency with tools such as drills/impact drivers, portable grinders, bandsaws, general hand tools, brazing torches, electrical multi meters (including input simulators), and ladders.
  • A strong commitment to safety with priority over production, efficiency, schedule, or external pressures
  • Ability to learn, understand, and comply with company safety procedures.
  • Experience working as both issuer and receiver of Safety Work Permits.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe maintenance conditions.
  • Comfortable working on de‑energized circuits up to 480V.
  • Able to trace and measure voltage/amperage on instrumentation circuits by following elementary loop diagrams and/or via phone support with engineers.
  • Understanding of 4–20 mA instrumentation signals and loops.
  • Understanding of piping systems, regulators, valves, relief devices, pumps, and compressors.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Ability to perform tasks such as driving, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, tightening, loosening, drilling, sawing, crawling, bending, shoveling, and wrenching.
  • Ability to perform work outdoors, year‑round in all weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills to interface with customers, management, sales, and engineering.
  • A self‑starter with a strong learning aptitude and desire for professional growth.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities with a big‑picture, diagnostic mindset.
  • Comfortable working independently for extended periods of time and, the ability to work well in a collaborative Team.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Availability to be on call 24/7.
  • A valid driver’s license, a good driving record and the ability to maintain a clean MVR are required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Technical degree is preferred but is not required.
  • Welding or brazing experience is preferred but is not required.
  • Military Experience: Machinist Mate, Electrician’s Mate, Electronics Technician, Aircraft Maintenance, Cryogenic Technician.
  • Technical Education or Related Skills: Process Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Systems, Electrical Power & Controls, Electromechanical Technology, HVAC, plumbing, welding, mechanical repair, construction, vehicle or small engine repair, fabricating, crane & rigging, fuel industry, or general maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Service Air Products cryogenic, high‑pressure, and generated gas systems, along with associated equipment, at customer sites throughout the assigned region.
  • Occasionally supervise contractors and crane operations.
  • Participate in after‑hours and weekend call‑outs as needed; maintain 24/7 availability.
  • Utilize company-provided truck, gas card, laptop, truck, uniforms, and tools.
  • Travel includes some overnight stays; more frequent during the first six months for training purposes.
  • Overnight stays may also be required to support customers outside of your normal territory when needed to support the business.
