About The Position

Responsible for performing intermediate level technical work and related activities associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of Company equipment and facilities. This role involves technical proficiency, leadership, planning, problem-solving, communication, and business awareness within the energy sector.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience OR an associate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields (for Customer Design Technician Assoc.).
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience (for Customer Design Technician).
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields, with a minimum of 4 years of related utility industry work experience, OR High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge (for Customer Design Technician Sr.).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Basic computer literacy, knowledge, and skills.
  • Ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Meets expectations of the Technician level (for Customer Design Technician Sr.).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical knowledge acquired from an Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/ Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Knowledge of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of pertinent equipment, material, systems, and business processes.
  • Work activities as assigned and coached by higher level employees.
  • Experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate level technical work related to planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of Company equipment and facilities.
  • Assist employees in handling defined portions of routine problems when beneficial to AEP.
  • Plan work in accordance with AEP standard planning practices.
  • Prioritize routine work to meet company demands.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience in resolving problems encountered in assigned work.
  • Use initiative to look for opportunities to improve processes and increase job knowledge/technical skills.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret information necessary to perform work activities and solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and papers.
  • Be a team player and relate to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.
  • Develop decision-making skills based on sound judgment and job knowledge.
  • Develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the local organizational unit.
