About The Position

The Camera Hardware Engineering group designs, develops, and innovates camera hardware for Apple products, with the goal of delivering superior hardware and a best-in-class camera user experience. The Camera Electronics and Sensing Group develops custom chipsets for imaging and sensing features, including lens stabilization, depth sensing, flicker detection, and eye tracking. In this role, you will work with cross-functional mechanical, optical, firmware, product/test, and camera systems engineers to evaluate performance specifications. You will translate complex system architectures into electrical and IC requirements and work at the boundary between camera system requirements and vendor implementations to identify design issues. The position involves developing and executing camera electrical validation and debugging plans, analyzing data, developing software for laboratory data acquisition and control, silicon validation, and prototyping, and designing and debugging circuits and PCBs for validating, characterizing, and prototyping camera hardware chipsets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience validating mixed-signal systems, including hands-on laboratory measurements using electrical instrumentation.
  • Experience with design of experiments or a similar process for troubleshooting or debugging electrical problems.
  • Experience scripting in Python, C, and/or MATLAB for validation, automation, and electrical systems analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with low-level programming and debugging for embedded development (C/C++) on MCU-based systems.
  • Experience designing and debugging PCBs for hardware platforms containing drivers, converters, PMUs, or high-speed amplifier ICs.
  • Experience with circuit design, schematic capture, layout, and component selection.
  • Experience with electrical design, integration, and validation of electro-optical, electro-mechanical, camera, and/or optical depth systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with mechanical, optical, firmware, product/test, and camera systems engineers to evaluate performance specifications.
  • Translate complex system architectures into electrical and IC requirements.
  • Identify design issues at the interface between camera system requirements and vendor implementations.
  • Develop and execute plans for camera electrical validation and debugging.
  • Analyze validation data and draw conclusions.
  • Develop scripts, firmware, and models for laboratory data acquisition, control systems, silicon validation, and prototyping.
  • Design and debug circuits and PCBs for validating, characterizing, and prototyping camera hardware chipsets.
