All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The Custodian II performs daily maintenance tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and buffing floors, as well as cleaning and dusting furniture, fixtures, and windows. This role is also responsible for restroom upkeep, including sanitizing toilets, sinks, and mirrors, and restocking supplies. Waste management, including emptying trash and recycling bins, is a key duty. The Custodian II will also perform specialized cleaning tasks like carpet shampooing or floor stripping and waxing during scheduled intervals. Additionally, the role involves minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and reporting major maintenance issues. Safety and security are paramount, requiring the employee to ensure doors and windows are locked at the end of shifts and monitor basic building heating and cooling systems. External care of building entrances, including sweeping debris and clearing walkways, is also part of the responsibilities. The Custodian II must properly handle, mix, and store cleaning chemicals according to SDS and OSHA regulations, and monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, requesting orders before stock runs low.
