About The Position

Loyola Marymount University is seeking a responsible custodian to perform cleaning and upkeep of buildings. This role involves responding to cleaning requests, assisting with furniture relocation, and maintaining a clean, disinfected, and professional environment. The custodian will operate cleaning equipment, manage supplies, and contribute to the training of new staff. Adherence to university safety policies and CDC guidelines is essential. This position is non-exempt and offers a salary range of $22.26 - $26.68 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. Requirements

  • Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years’ experience cleaning and general housekeeping or related work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of vacuum cleaners (canister/upright, dry/wet); shampoo machine; hose; mop (dry/wet); scrub or dirt brush (manual); cleaning equipment, cleaning preparation, and cleaning products (chemical, aerosol, liquid).
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interpret written instructions such as supply warning labels, policies & procedures, and other instructions.
  • Cooperate and communicate with supervisor and fellow employees.
  • Some positions may require possession of a California driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial experience in a large facility such as a hotel or school/classroom setting is preferred.
  • Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of buildings as scheduled.
  • Dust blinds, bulletin boards, doors, furniture, light fixtures, pictures, restroom fixtures, stair rails, vents, window ledges and sills.
  • Damp wipe and polish furniture.
  • Mop, wax, and buff floors, including stairways, entrances, steps, and elevator cabs.
  • Polish glass doors, partitions, kick plate door hardware, elevator doors, and drinking fountains.
  • Clean chalkboards and dry erase boards.
  • Wash windows.
  • Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, toilets, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, and floors.
  • Replace restroom supplies and ensure toilets are clear of debris.
  • Wash countertops.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, cushioned furniture, and elevator door tracks.
  • Empty and wipe ashtrays, waste baskets, and trash receptacles, and replace plastic liners.
  • Clean trash chutes.
  • Operate and clean various equipment, including power-cleaning equipment like buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
  • Respond to special requests for debris removal and spill clean-up.
  • Perform specialized custodial work.
  • Replenish soap and paper supplies in pantries and restrooms.
  • Stock and clean supply rooms and service carts.
  • Assist in the delivery of campus custodial supplies.
  • Assist in the on-the-job training of new staff.
  • Perform cleaning functions specific to assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  • Conserve energy by managing lighting and ensuring windows and faucets are properly closed/shut off.
  • Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, including submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
  • Adhere to University safety policies and CDC guidelines.
  • Set up furniture or return furniture to its standard configuration.
  • Assist in the relocation of furniture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
