About The Position

Custodial Services is hiring a full-time Custodian to provide clean and sanitary spaces for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the University of Washington Seattle Campus. Reporting to the Custodial Manager, the role performs custodial duties according to established procedures and standards. The scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This position performs essential services and may be required to work during periods of declared suspended operation. The Custodian cleans and sanitizes restrooms, shower rooms, fixtures, floors, carpets, furniture, and other surfaces; uses and maintains cleaning equipment and hand tools; and follows instructions and safety procedures for chemicals, supplies, and equipment. Additional duties may include securing buildings, reporting maintenance needs or unauthorized occupants, cleaning windows, removing snow or debris, moving items, and operating a high-pressure washer.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, and fixtures, and refill restroom dispensers.
Clean chalkboards and erasers; dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; and empty waste, trash, and recycling containers.
Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
Lock and unlock buildings, check doors and windows when securing buildings, and report unauthorized occupants.
Follow written or verbal instructions on using chemicals, supplies, and equipment, and comply with safety policies and procedures.
Report repair or maintenance needs.
May wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows.
May remove snow or debris or sweep sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
May move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
May operate a high-pressure washer.
Strip, clean, and buff floors; apply floor finish; use high-speed floor buffers or polishers; and vacuum and clean carpets.
Perform related duties as required.
