About The Position

The Custodian performs routine cleaning and upkeep of school or site facilities and property. Duties include cleaning floors, carpets, furniture, windows, restrooms, drinking fountains, and eating surfaces; restocking supplies; moving and setting up furniture and equipment; securing rooms; and performing minor repairs. The role may also include painting, cleaning up after special events, and assisting with cafeteria supervision at breakfast and lunch. The employee must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively to employees of the organization.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram-based instructions using common-sense understanding and to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, and polish floors.
• Vacuum and clean carpets.
• Dust and clean chalkboards or whiteboards, furniture, windows, blinds, and equipment.
• Clean, sanitize, and disinfect restrooms, sinks, drinking fountains, and eating surfaces.
• Move furniture and equipment.
• Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
• Sweep walkways and pick up paper and trash.
• Secure rooms upon completion of work.
• Set up furniture and equipment for special events, meetings, and classes.
• Perform minor repairs around campus or the site.
• May paint buildings, structures, and furnishings inside or outside.
• Restock paper products and soap throughout the campus.
• Assist in supervising the cafeteria at breakfast and lunch.
• Clean up after special events, as applicable to second-shift custodial work.
