About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for performing routine custodial duties in an assigned area to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors. This includes cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, classrooms, offices, and other facilities, as well as performing minor maintenance tasks. The role requires adherence to established cleaning schedules and procedures, proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies, and reporting any maintenance issues or safety concerns to supervisors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform routine custodial tasks efficiently and effectively.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Background check and fingerprinting may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
• Experience working in a school environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of assigned areas, including restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors.
• Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.
• Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
• Clean windows, doors, and walls.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and unclogging drains.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers.
• Replenish restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
• Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply needs to the supervisor.
• Follow established cleaning schedules and procedures.
• Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines.
• May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
