About The Position

Virginia Military Institute is hiring a full-time Custodian for Facilities Management. The role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in assigned restrooms, building interiors, and outside areas. The custodian will care for hard-surface floors and carpets, respond professionally to customer requests, and assist with special assignments and other duties as directed by management. Training will be provided.

Requirements

Ability to learn and maintain equipment, including buffers and scrubbers.
Ability to learn basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

Clean and disinfect assigned restrooms, including basins, mirrors, commodes, floors, urinals, walls, and fixtures, and replenish paper products as needed.
Remove trash and debris from assigned areas and police the outside of the building; remove debris, snow, ice, and leaves as directed, and recheck areas as needed during the shift.
Clean assigned classrooms, study rooms, offices, libraries, entryways, water fountains, stairways, hallways, and other areas by sweeping, mopping, buffing, dusting, and cleaning windows.
Maintain hard-surface floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, and performing high-speed maintenance buffing.
Clean carpets as needed or requested using a bonnet or carpet extractor method.
Respond to customer requests in a courteous and professional manner.
Assist the supervisor with special assignments upon request.
Perform other duties assigned by management, including event preparation and support, inclement weather support, and special project teams such as floor maintenance.
