About The Position

The King County Facilities Management Division (FMD) is seeking reliable and dynamic individuals to join their Custodial team that is responsible for maintaining the internal and external cleanliness and appearance of King County facilities. The Custodians are part of the Building Operations Section, which is committed to providing high-quality customer service to support and maintain King County facilities and buildings effectively and efficiently. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple full-time Custodial positions, including Career Service and Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions. Successful candidates not selected for a current vacant position may be added to an eligibility list for future Career Service, Term-Limited Temporary (TLT), or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) opportunities. This position will work in a secure facility, and it is required that you pass a thorough background check prior to being hired. Reference checks and a pre-employment physical will also be required. Some positions include "float" positions which may require the Custodian to report to a variety of locations. Successful candidates must have an active, valid driver's license and a reliable form of transportation. Requirements

  • Have knowledge of basic janitorial cleaning techniques, and the use and care of cleaning equipment.
  • Have knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and safety rules.
  • Be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Have the ability to be customer-focused and maintain positive internal and external client relationships.
  • Have an effective communication style and the ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in a variety of settings with a diverse audience.
  • Have the ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license, or the ability to travel to worksite locations throughout King County in a timely manner.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation with the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) and the Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS), as well as references and a pre-employment physical examination, if selected.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, dust mop, wet-mop, and vacuum floor surfaces.
  • Dust, spot clean furniture and blinds.
  • Empty wastebaskets, compostable and recyclable containers.
  • Dust light fixtures, clean doors, walls, and drinking fountains.
  • Clean restrooms including toilets, entire sink areas, shower stalls, partitions, walls, vents, doors and floors; replenish towels, tissue and soap dispensers.
  • Sweep and clean facility entrances and exits including sidewalks, trash cans and ash trays.
  • Spot clean interior glass windows, surface areas and remove minor graffiti.
  • Clean lunch rooms to include floors, walls and sinks.
  • Secure facility area for safe cleaning.
  • Mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals, as directed.
  • Order, move and stock supplies on shelves and in closets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
