About The Position

The Custodian position in the Facilities Department is responsible for creating an attractive, sanitary, and safe campus environment. This role involves arranging furnishings and equipment for various events, assisting with summer maintenance tasks, and performing regular cleaning of school facilities. The custodian also inspects facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness, performs minor maintenance and repairs, and prepares facilities for daily operations. Additionally, the custodian responds to immediate safety and operational concerns to minimize damage and ensure a functional educational environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.
  • Assists with summer maintenance tasks such as painting, caulking, floor care, carpet shampooing, and furniture moving.
  • Attends in-service training on topics like bloodborne pathogens, cleaning solvents, and first aid.
  • Cleans assigned school facilities including classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, and multipurpose rooms.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure they are suitable for safe operations, maintained in a clean condition, and to identify necessary repairs.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for facility maintenance.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on items such as broken glass, toilets, carpets, door handles, walls, and leaks.
  • Prepares facilities for daily operations by opening gates and building access doors.
  • Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns like facility damage and alarms.
  • Assists other personnel as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
