About The Position

The custodian is responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of custodial tasks that provides personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and conduct school activities. Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.
  • Conduct consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church, ensuring public behavior does not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
  • Previous experience demonstrating ability to safely and effectively operate standard facility custodial equipment.
  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work.
  • Ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
  • Required to fulfill the Diocese of Orlando Safe Environment Certification process.
  • Undergo screening with the Clearinghouse Care Provider Background Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, and walls.
  • Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias.
  • Cleans offices, hallways, washrooms, lavatories, rooms, drinking fountains, cafeteria, gym, entrances, etc.
  • Steam cleans or shampoos carpets.
  • Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing. Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transports materials to disposal area; recycles materials.
  • Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety.
  • Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks.
  • Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually with assistance or by using hand trucks.
  • Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Continually monitors timeliness to achieve timely completion of all jobs.
