About The Position

The State of Connecticut’s Connecticut Technical Education and Career System is recruiting a full-time Custodian for Bullard-Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This is a year-round position working 37.5 hours per week on the second shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The role performs basic cleaning and maintenance of school buildings and surrounding outdoor areas. Work includes cleaning classrooms, offices, auditoriums, kitchens, dining rooms, lavatories, and other spaces; maintaining floors and surfaces; collecting trash and recycling; identifying damage and repair needs; and performing minor maintenance. The position may also involve moving furniture, setting up classrooms, and removing snow and ice from walks and stairways. The job class requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions, communicate, keep records, and operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work. Incumbents must have adequate strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity to perform the work. A physical examination may be required. Incumbents may need to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to injury risks from equipment or individuals.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Perform custodial tasks and maintain classrooms, offices, auditoriums, kitchens, dining rooms, lavatories, and outdoor areas.
Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment, including floor polishers and buffers.
Wash, dust, and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
Collect and dispose of trash and recycling in appropriate containers.
Report repair needs, inspect buildings for damage, and report conditions to a supervisor.
Perform minor maintenance and related duties as required.
May make beds; handle linens, blankets, and clothing; collect soiled laundry; and distribute, empty, and sterilize glassware, wash basins, and bedpans.
May sweep walks, run errands, change light bulbs, replace fuses, lubricate or tighten hinges and other fixtures, and replace ceiling or floor tiles.
May remove snow and ice and sand or salt stairways and walkways.
May move furniture and set up classrooms.
