About The Position

Huron Academy is currently hiring for a 2nd shift Custodian. 11am - 7:30pm Monday - Friday. Are you the next member of our Huron Academy Family? Huron Academy is a tuition free public charter school for K-8th located in Utica. We offer smaller class sizes, a hands on science program, character education, and strong academic programs. Latchkey and preschool classes are offered five days a week throughout the year. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Lead Custodian to join our team. The Lead Custodian plays a vital role in supervising and coordinating daily cleaning operations. This position requires a hands-on leader who can effectively manage a team, allocate tasks, and ensure all areas are maintained to the highest standards. As the Lead Custodian, you will work closely with management to support the organization’s goals and maintain a harmonious working environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, and safety of assigned buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Oversee and direct the daily activities of the custodial staff to ensure all cleaning tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate custodial staff, providing feedback and support to encourage professional growth.
  • Develop cleaning schedules and allocate resources to optimize workflow and coverage.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors.
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, countertops, and windows.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables.
  • Restock supplies in restrooms and break rooms as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections to maintain health and safety standards, reporting any maintenance needs or safety hazards.
  • Follow established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of meeting rooms, events, and special functions as required.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels and cost-effective purchasing.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
