About The Position

The Lafayette Upper Elementary School Custodian's primary goal is to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop. This role involves maintaining the building and grounds, performing minor repairs, and ensuring the overall upkeep of the school premises.

Requirements

High School diploma or G.E.D.
Ability to perform the essential job functions
Effective interpersonal skills
Effective grooming skills
Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
Ability to push/pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently

Responsibilities

Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
Clears corridors during the day when their condition requires it.
Cleans restrooms as directed by the building level principal.
Disinfects drinking fountains daily.
Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
Makes minor building repairs.
Reports major repairs needed promptly to the principal.
Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approved.
Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving (if appropriate) that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian's work.
Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
Notifies the building level principal of conditions that adversely affect the performance of the district.
Refrains from discussing confidential and official business with unauthorized people.
Conducts all professional business through proper channels of communication.
Maintains a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
Submits all data and information as requested.
Regularly monitors district email for pertinent communication.
Attends meetings as scheduled by supervisors and District Administrators.
Completes requested paperwork.
Shovels and sands sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
Performs such yard keeping chores like grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
