About The Position

The Custodian keeps premises of commercial, retail, airport, hospitality, healthcare, convention center/arena, or other institutional buildings clean and orderly. The position performs cleaning and waste-handling duties, including cleaning rooms and common areas, maintaining floors and furnishings, and transporting waste for disposal. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. No prior experience or training is required, and no computer skills or certifications are needed.

Requirements

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in English in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, including using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear; frequently climb or balance and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Clean and polish lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
• Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Sweep, scrub, finish, and polish floors.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
• Dust furniture and equipment.
• Polish metalwork.
• Wash walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
• Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
• Empty wastebaskets and empty and clean ashtrays.
• Transport trash and waste to the disposal area.
