About The Position

The Custodian position is responsible for performing major cleaning tasks, maintaining restrooms, washing windows, making minor repairs, and ensuring the building is secure. This role also involves assisting with summer clean-up, grounds maintenance, and potentially working overtime and weekends to meet facility schedules. The position requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, and frequent bending and standing.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective grooming skills
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
  • Ability to push / pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently
  • Must be able to up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash, cleaning chalkboards, and disinfecting drinking fountains.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including floors and all fixtures.
  • Wash windows and sills.
  • Replace light bulbs, fill dispensers, and set up facilities for events.
  • Make minor building repairs and report major repairs needed.
  • Work overtime and on weekends as necessary.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
  • Ascend and descend stairs frequently, with regular bending and standing.
  • Assist in major clean-up in summer, including washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, and stripping and waxing floors.
  • Perform grounds maintenance such as pulling weeds, keeping grounds free of rubbish, shoveling snow, and applying ice melt.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community patrons.
  • Submit all requested data and information.
  • Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and District Administrators.
  • Complete requested paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Facilities, or designee.
