About The Position

This entry-level custodian position is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning duties to maintain the University in a clean, safe, and orderly manner using both manual and mechanical methods. Responsibilities include restocking supplies, cleaning rooms, walls, hallways, restrooms, stairways, collecting trash, and vacuuming. The goal is to effectively and efficiently maintain all interior and exterior building areas to the highest standards of cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods.
  • Knowledge of safe usage and storage of all chemicals.
  • Knowledge of proper usage of PPE.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to complete training as required, including hazardous communication, fall arrest, MSDS, asbestos identification, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, and respirator training.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • A strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Responsibilities

  • Shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks and entryways.
  • Perform work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures to assist in creating a culture of safety and environmental protection.
  • Operate equipment safely and report any unsafe work conditions or practices to the supervisor.
  • Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, stairways, and all other areas to meet health standards.
  • Empty trash containers and reline if necessary, including exterior cans and cigarette containers.
  • Replenish restroom supplies.
  • Keep closets stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Dust furniture and equipment.
  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors using brooms and mops.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture using vacuum cleaners.
  • Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, and wax or polish as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager of housekeeping or team lead.
