About The Position

The Custodian performs custodial duties in an assigned area to provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient learning place for students and staff at Ritenour High School. The work schedule covers normal school hours and authorized after-school building use. Regular attendance is required, and the role includes independent travel to work sites within the building. The position reports to the Custodial Supervisor.

Requirements

Minimum of six months of experience; a short demonstration of skills is required.
Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
Ability to handle standardized situations with occasional variables.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
Ability to print simple sentences and series of numbers, names, and addresses.
Ability to speak simple sentences using normal word order and present and past tenses.
Regular attendance and independent mobility between work sites within a building are required.

Responsibilities

Clean the building and premises, including sidewalks and play areas.
Sweep, mop, wet-wash, vacuum, buff, strip, and wax floors and other assigned surfaces.
Wash and clean windows, doors, and interior glass, including partitions and framed pictures.
Clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms, and restrooms.
Clean, wax, renovate, and renew furniture and floor surface finishes.
Replace burned-out light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed.
Shovel, plow, and/or salt walks and steps.
Move furniture or equipment within the building for activities or as directed.
Assist with cleaning areas left undone because of an absent custodian.
Open and close the building, secure doors and windows, and turn off appropriate lights.
Report vandalism, deliberate littering, and unruly behavior to the appropriate authority.
Perform other related work as assigned.
