About The Position

The Custodian is dedicated to fulfilling the Jewish Community Center’s (the J’s) mission of enriching lives, building community, promoting inclusivity, and creating meaningful Jewish experiences. The Custodian proactively collaborates across departments to provide excellent customer service to our staff, members, vendors, and rental clients through routine cleaning, room set up, laundry duties, and upkeep of the buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work independently and well with others.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical.
  • Grade School graduation
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must be attentive to details with outstanding internal and external customer service skills.
  • Flexible schedule to allow for weekend and evening work is required.
  • Commitment to the inclusive mission of the J.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Prior related experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and their safety is a plus.
  • Able to volunteer to work set up and tear down for events.
  • May require adjusting hours or time outside of normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Launder, fold and restock towels.
  • Mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces as needed.
  • Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
  • Ongoing cleaning and servicing of restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Frequent restocking of consumables, towels, and toiletries.
  • Collect waste paper and recyclables.
  • Report items that require repair.
  • Safely operate necessary equipment to perform job tasks (i.e., clothes washer, clothes dryer, elevator, etc.).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout work area.
  • Assist the kitchen with transport of food when needed.
  • Transport items throughout the J as needed. (i.e., meals, packages, mail, etc.)
  • Follow and abide by all J rules and policies.
  • Attend J and departmental meetings as required.
  • Report any issue that you cannot resolve but requires attention.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
