About The Position

Fort Hays State University is hiring a full-time custodian for its academic buildings. The primary purpose of the role is to clean an assigned building in a way that promotes health and safety and to maintain its floors, walls, carpets, furniture, and facilities. The position also includes assisting with room and event setups, outdoor cleaning tasks, and other duties as assigned. Regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and Friday, 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Occasional weekend hours are required. The pay rate is $15.03 per hour, plus a $0.30 shift differential. The start date will be determined after an offer is accepted and the background check is cleared. Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Consent to and successful completion of a criminal background check as a final candidate.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of custodial experience.
Experience operating custodial equipment, including a high-speed floor buffer, carpet extractor, and floor auto scrubber.

Responsibilities

Clean the assigned building to promote health and safety.
Maintain floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
Operate and maintain custodial power equipment and hand tools, including floor auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed floor buffers, and vacuums.
Dust and clean facilities and furnishings.
Sweep and mop floors.
Vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Strip, clean, and buff hard-surface floors and apply floor sealer and finish.
Empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures, and refill restroom dispensers.
Wash interior and exterior windows.
Assist with setting up facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
Remove snow or debris from sidewalks and outside grounds as part of cleaning and related activities.
Replace light bulbs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
