About The Position

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment at all Gads Hill Center sites. This individual adheres to a daily schedule of cleaning and sanitizing tasks. In addition, the Custodian may inspect the facility daily and identify, report, and resolve potential safety hazards, items in need of repair or areas in need of thorough cleaning. This individual may also be assigned to perform minor building maintenance, repairs, and installations as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous janitorial experience preferred.
  • Ability to handle heavy cleaning equipment, machinery and furniture.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials
  • Dedicated and cautious; high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to work on foot for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • GED or High School Diploma preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
  • A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean environment by cleaning site facilities as assigned (e.g. classrooms, restrooms, windows, walls, floors, outside play areas, and clearing snow in the entrance area etc.)
  • Prepares facility for daily operations for the next day by removing trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
  • Sweeps and mops floors, vacuum carpets, maintain staircases.
  • Disinfects and sanitizes classrooms and washrooms.
  • Restocks disposables as needed.
  • Cleans mirrors and windows.
  • Replaces liners and maintains garbage bins and lids in a clean, odor free condition.
  • Secures facility after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm system.
  • Identifies and reports problems regarding site cleanliness, safety hazards, and needed repairs to the Site Manager.
  • Moving desks, filing cabinets, boxes, furniture, office clean-outs.
  • Build and repair office and classroom furniture.
  • Meeting/event setup, chairs, tables, room preparation.
  • Completes assigned duties within scheduled deadlines.
  • Participating in supervision meetings and workshops within the agency and outside (if applicable), and 15 hours of Professional Development training in Gateways to Opportunity.
  • Participating in civic engagement
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
