About The Position

The Sioux Falls School District is seeking flexible and dedicated Custodians to join their team. The Custodial team is essential in creating a safe and healthy environment for students. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of District buildings and grounds, assisting with school activities, and ensuring building security. The district is committed to student achievement and innovative educational strategies, serving a diverse population of over 25,000 students.

Requirements

  • Ability to drive to more than one location during a work shift.
  • Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical if new employee.
  • Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking.
  • Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping.
  • Occasional climbing and crawling.
  • Good attendance.
  • Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction in English with or without a communication device.
  • Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction.
  • Positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.
  • Works modified assignments as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains cleanliness of District buildings including sweeping, dusting, arranging furniture, emptying trash and pencil sharpeners, cleaning white boards and chalk boards.
  • Washes walls, woodwork, and windows.
  • Cleans and polishes metal surfaces.
  • Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors.
  • Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop surfaces, and playgrounds, including snow and ice removal of pedestrian walkways.
  • Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems (limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles).
  • Assists in the setups and tear downs for school activities.
  • Observes and reports needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building, and site.
  • Secures building rooms at the conclusion of shift.
  • Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
  • Shares responsibility for holiday, extended-day, and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
