About The Position

Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students in six schools and is undergoing extensive turnaround efforts with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This creates unique opportunities for teachers and students. The district is partnering with the University of Connecticut to develop Southbridge Schools as a national demonstration site for successful implementation of PBIS strategies. Additionally, significant grants are enabling creative redesigns of the Secondary School, curriculum enhancements, improved culture and climate, and afterschool opportunities for students. Southbridge Public Schools welcomes individuals who are passionate about improving the educational experience for students and have a commitment to social justice.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required to lift a minimum of 60 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Notify management of need for repairs.
  • Clean snow or debris from sidewalk.
  • Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
