About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for keeping the assigned building(s) clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with the prescribed codes and established district policies and standards. A custodial worker must maintain all assigned building(s) in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program. The Custodian is responsible for performing the assigned work following approved custodial job procedures. They will perform assigned duties in the care of grounds, including mowing of grass in areas immediately around the building and other areas not accessible to large machinery, removal of snow and ice from walks and steps, and care of flowers and shrubbery. Maintain proper and neat storage areas for custodial supplies and equipment in the area of the building assigned. Maintain building and grounds security by opening/closing the building each school day and during special events as directed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the operation of mechanical, electrical and heating units in the building.
  • Familiarity with the proper operation and care of custodial mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of institution cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Ability to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and give and receive oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to squat, stoop, or kneel.
  • Ability to reach above the head, and reach forward.
  • Ability to use hand strength to grasp tools and rungs of ladders.
  • Ability to bend or twist at the neck and trunk.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to sometimes push or pull items.
  • Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Climb and work from ladders and/or personnel lift as necessary.
  • Work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  • Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.
  • Work on call as needed at any time for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside the normal work hours.
  • High probability that contact with blood-borne materials will occur within daily duties.
  • All duties and procedures are to be performed within health safety standards as established by local and state OSHA and school district emergency procedures.

  • Maintaining building and grounds security by opening/closing the building each school day and during special events.
  • Correcting minor maintenance problems in the building(s).
  • Maintaining neat and clean uniforms when on duty.
  • Projecting a positive image for the school district.
  • Maintaining good sanitary conditions of building facilities.
  • Making arrangements for use of school facilities by non-school groups.
  • Cooperating with all groups that use the building after regular school hours.
  • Reporting problems noted in the building to foreman, working leader or principal.
  • Maintaining playground equipment in safe and good operating condition.
  • Working on call as needed at any time for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside the normal work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary: Per contract $16.92- $20.43
